Virtue signalling and other inane platitudes - Mark Peters

https://www.bostonglobe.com/ideas/2015/12/24/virtue-signaling-and-other-inane-platitudes/YrJRcvxYMofMcCfgORUcFO/story.html

What is virtue signalling?
Virtue signalling - ‘actions (mostly online) that send the message “I’m a good person” - though they might not be accompanied by doing anything good at all.’

Examples include changing your Facebook picture to support a cause, offering your thoughts and prayers after a disaster or tragedy,  etc…

‘The common denominator is the emptiness of the gestures.’

Could this link to the Benetton campaigns?

Peters references Bartholomew in this text so my next step is to read his article: ‘The Awful Rise of 'Virtue Signalling''
